Fuel Rail Recall
Cadillac has recalled all
1995-1997 Northstar-powered cars for a potential problem with the OE fuel
rail. The OE rail was made of a nylon material, which over time
(years) and use (heat) can degrade just enough for a pinhole leak to
develop, posing a fire hazard. A dealership will replace the fuel
rail with a new stainless steel rail (which is also the service part as I
understand) free of charge. There are pictures below showing my
engine, with the old and new rails.

You can see the
"arches" of the nylon tubing connecting each fuel injector mount,
with a length of tubing connecting the front and rear banks on the
left side of this picture, curving around the end of the intake
manifold. The injector mounts also help retain each spark wire
(near the white markings on the plug wires). |

It's clear what the new
part is under the engine beauty cover -- it's shiny!! The new
stainless rail looks plenty sturdy. They also protected the
front four plug wires with plastic wire looming. Gone are the
little retaining clips on the injector mounts (since the new stainless
rail appears to replace the mounts), but the wires are held in place
firmly enough with the provisions at the top of the intake manifold
and by the clamping force of the engine beauty cover against the cam
cover. |
